Text: Proverbs 22:1-6
Memory Verse: “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
If God has placed children in your care, He says “train them in the way they should go.” It means that you should give the child a taste of what God wants them to become. For instance, if you want a child to love a certain
food, you feed the child with that food in different ways, and with time the child grows to love and eat it.
You are to give your child a taste of spiritual things. From the very first day the child is born there is a way spiritual things are introduced to them. Speak the scriptures to a child that you are carrying in your hands because they have a way of sensing what you are saying. It is the Holy Spirit that communicates with their spirit.
Give a taste of the direction you want your child to go. Children often do not know how to make the right choices and need to be taught. In fact foolishness abounds in their hearts (Proverbs 22:15). The idea of leaving them alone to
themselves is wrong. As children, they depend on you to say yes or no to them until they learn to say so for themselves.
You must help them choose the right language. There are things that should not proceed from the mouth of a child. Put a stop to it the moment you notice unwholesome and perverse words. They are royalty and must speak wholesome words. Train them to have good esteem. They are children of God and must represent Him. Train them accordingly.
Prayer Points:
1. Help me Lord as I train my children so that Your desires concerning them will be accomplished.
2. Lord, I declare that my children will bring You glory and make me proud; they will not be vagabonds.
