Text: Genesis 30:22-24
Memory Verse: “And she conceived and bore a son, and said, ‘God has taken away my reproach’” (Genesis 30:23).
Reproach represents something that brings shame or a loss of honour to an individual. It can cause deep emotional pain and be a source of stigma, making life feel burdensome. This may lead to feelings of discomfort, humiliation, and restriction of one’s ability to reach one’s full
potential and exposing one to ridicule from others, even close friends or family members.
Reproach may come as a result of sin, self-indulgence, or satanic attack. There are Biblical examples of people who suffered reproach – Rachel’s initial barrenness, Jabez’s label as a man who caused pain (1 Chronicles 4:9 & 10), and the Israelites’ slavery in Egypt before God delivered them through Moses (Exodus 12:31-37).
Experiencing reproach can feel overwhelming, but the following steps can help you navigate through such moments:
1. Look inwards: Self-reflection is key.
2. Call upon God: Seek God earnestly through prayer, relying on His strength rather than fixating on the problem.
3. Have faith in God: Trust that God is bigger than your reproach and that He can and will deliver you.
4. Seek godly counsel: Turn to trusted spiritual advisers for support, encouragement, and guidance.
5. Do not murmur or complain: Complaining does not resolve the situation.
6. Meditate on God’s Word: Regularly reflect on and declare God’s promises, reminding yourself of His faithfulness.
Remember, God cares deeply for you and knows your circumstances. He sees your reproach and can take it away (Psalm 30:5). So, look to Him.
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, let every form of reproach be taken out of my life.
2. Lord, grant me grace to look up to You till my help comes.
