God’s Word Is Dependable

Text: Numbers 14:1-3, 6-9,11

Memory Verse: “Then the Lord said to Moses: ‘How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?’” (Numbers 14:11).

Many scriptural prophecies centre around Israel because God’s word to anyone is dependable. God is still intent on fulfilling His word and promises to Abraham, though he is long gone! Exodus 2:24 says, “So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.” The majority report the 12 spies brought from Canaan scared the people. They chose to forget God’s word and promise to them forgetting that it was He who decided it was time for them to leave Egypt and destroyed the Egyptians with the plagues, burying their army in the Red Sea. Moses said, “Do not be afraid.

Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, … For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and  you shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:13&14). You must be intentional in your reliance on God and not allow the fears and difficulties of the moment to cloud your knowledge of who your God is. Though Joshua and Caleb tried to calm the Israelites down, they chose to believe the frightening report of the 10 and forget God’s dependable words.

Fortify your heart and faith when there are no problems. From your reserve and bank of God’s words and dealings with His people, you will be able to draw in difficult times. Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” (Job
13:15a). Can you?

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, may I be disciplined enough to store Your words in my heart daily.
2. I will trust You, my dependable God.
