Text: 1 Samuel 3: 1-10
Memory Verse: “Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times,
‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel answered, ‘Speak, for Your servant hears’”
(1 Samuel 3:10).

t the time Samuel was born, Israel lacked strong spiritual leadership. AThe priesthood was corrupt, and even the High Priest, Eli’sn spirituality had declined. God needed to reveal His will to Israel and chose not to speak directly to Eli, but to a young boy named Samuel; one who had a hearing ear.

God gave us eyes to see and ears to hear, so we can perceive what He wants us to observe, which is mainly His Word, the primary way He instructs us. He might also communicate with you by the quickening of the Holy Spirit or through other believers. Whichever way, you must test the spirit if it be of God (1 John 4:1). Hearing enables us to listen, engage, and enjoy fellowship with God, and it also helps us maintain healthy relationships with God and others. God’s highest desire is to foster an ongoing relationship with humanity. He periodically calls individuals to deliver His messages or give guidance. When these calls are ignored, He persists. A clear example is the fact that God called Samuel three times before Samuel responded (1 Samuel 3:4–9).

God’s purpose in calling you may be to speak personally, to share messages for others (1 Samuel 3:11–14), or to reveal matters for prayer (Matthew 26:31–35). It is your responsibility to be alert, ready to hear, and willing to respond to His divine call. Are you listening when God calls? Do not ignore that still, small voice.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to hear and heed Your instructions today.
2. O God, open my ears and eyes to hear and behold wonderful things in Your
word.
