Text: Proverbs 6:6-11
Memory Verse: “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise” (Proverbs 6:6).
Does it not seem demeaning or belittling that God would suggest you learn from an ant? Yet, that is exactly what Proverbs 6:6 says: “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider its ways and be wise.” This sharp instruction is not meant to insult, but to awaken a sense of responsibility. God clearly frowns at laziness in its entirety. He despises idleness because it is contrary to His nature and His purpose for mankind.
So, who is a lazy person? It is someone who refuses to engage in meaningful, productive work. A person who assumes a passive posture in life,, as we say colloquially, sitting idly and waiting for things to happen without lifting a finger. Laziness could also manifest in someone participating in activities halfheartedly, with minimal effort, devoid of intentionality or purpose. Proverbs 12:27 says, “The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, …”
Does this describe your approach to life? Worse still, is this how you respond to God and the assignments He has given you? Remember, God rewards diligence. He searches for men and women who are hardworking, faithful and intentional. Why? Because it is in diligence that we make profit of our calling, not just financially, but spiritually and impact our world for Christ.
Laziness is a silent destroyer. It kills potential, delays destiny and ultimately robs a person of God’s favour and blessing. Be wise. Reject laziness. Embrace diligence, stay hardworking and productive. Your future depends on it.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, deliver me from the spirit of laziness and give me godly counsel.
2. Lord, guide me into every good work.
