Text: 2 Thessalonians 1:3-12
Memory Verse: “Then everyone will give honour to the name of our Lord Jesus because of you, and you will be honoured along with him” (2 Thessalonians 1:12a, NLT)
Honouring God goes beyond simply giving material substance; it encompasses a lifestyle dedicated to knowing, loving, and worshiping Him in every aspect of life. While offering resources to God is significant, honouring Him involves much deeper obedience, reverence, and integrity in your actions and decisions.
David exemplified this by respecting God’s anointed authority even when Saul, his enemy, sought to kill him. Despite having the opportunity to take revenge, David chose to honour God’s anointing on Saul and refrained from harming him, demonstrating his deep reverence for God (1 Samuel 24:6). David’s attitude shows that honouring God involves more than just respecting authority; it is about recognizing and revering God’s purpose and hand in the lives of others, even in difficult circumstances.
Similarly, Joseph honoured God by living with integrity and maintaining a pure heart, despite severe trials. He refused to sin against God by not giving in to Potiphar’s wife’s advances, understanding that his actions were not just about morality or loyalty to Potiphar, but about obedience to God (Genesis 39:7-9). Joseph’s stance was rooted in a desire to remain faithful to God’s standards, even when no one else was watching.
It is easy to get caught up in superficial forms of worship or think that honouring God is limited to religious rituals. But true honour for God involves making daily decisions that reflect His righteousness, holding a deep respect for His authority, and maintaining integrity even when no one else sees. Are you living in a way that honours God?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, have mercy on me in any way my life has dishonoured You.
2. Dear Lord, please help me and all our fathers to live a life that honours You.
