Text: 1 Peter 1:13-16
Memory Verse: “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
Duke tried desperately to see through the windshield as he drove home, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not. Then he remembered that, thinking that it did not matter, he had cleaned it with a dirty towel earlier!
God demands holiness and perfection on your lifelong journey to perfection. Knowing Christ is the beginning of the journey. You must fill every space of victory over sin or a bad habit with something better by allowing God to create in you a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within you. There is a lesson to learn from every experience. Watch out for it.
Purity enables you to see God more clearly while lies, envy, jealousy, backbiting, slander, distractions, compromise etc. are like filth from the dirty towel that clouds your spiritual vision. Purity leads to holiness and Christlikeness. Purity also guards you from the consequences of sin. A small compromise defiles the whole body (James 1:14&15).
Are you guarding what enters your mind by being conscious of your daily choices? Compare King David’s choice of indulging himself by not going to war and inviting Bathsheba over to the palace with Joseph’s choice of fleeing from Potiphar’s wife. You must be intentional about purity because, though you can drift into sin, you cannot drift into holiness (1 Corinthians 10:13). It is a heart that seeks God wholeheartedly that finds Him (Jeremiah 29:13). Are you
pursuing purity?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to be intentional about my choices as I pursue purity.
2. Lord, please create in me a new heart, as I fight sin in my life.
