Text: 2 Samuel 18:26-28; John 10:14
Memory Verse: “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own” (John 10:14).
The watchman said, ‘I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” And the king said, “He is a good man, and comes with good news.” Both King David and the watchman had related with Ahimaaz and while one recognised the way he ran, the other knew
him to be a good man. David also was not surprised when he heard that King Saul had killed 85 priests because Doeg, the Edomite, snitched on him (1 Samuel 22:9,18-22).
Recognising the voice and mannerisms of an acquaintance comes with repeated interaction. The more you relate with someone, the better you know, understand and are able to differentiate him or her from others. New acquaintances will need to identify with you each time, until they become
familiar.
Paul must have met and heard about Jesus in the course of Jesus’ ministry, but he did not recognise His voice when He accosted him on his way to Damascusbecause they did not have a relationship (Acts 9:3-5). But thereafter, he became more familiar with Him.
The Bible contains all that you need to know about God and to recognise His voice and attributes at any time. God will not do anything that He disapproves of in His word. Do you read it daily? Study the Bible repeatedly as each reading gives fresh insight and helps you to know your God better. It will then be easier for you to be led by Him.
Prayer Points:
1. Help me to discipline myself more in spending time on Your word, O Lord.
2. As You instruct me, Lord, may my heart be tuned to obey.
