The Devil’s First Question

Text:
Genesis 3:1-7

Memory Verse:
“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”‘ (Genesis 3:1).

The devil’s favourite mode of attack is to cast doubt upon the word of God. He insinuated that God was very unjust and cruel by denying His creatures the blessings of the garden. Of course, the devil “misquoted” the word of God. He altered it just a little, but that little was fatal. He quoted
God as saying “you shall not eat of every tree of the garden” but God had said, “of every tree of the garden you may freely eat” (Genesis 2:16). This was exactly the opposite of Satan’s statement. If Satan were correct in his quotation of God’s word, it meant that Adam and Eve were doomed to die of starvation. What a cruel suggestion! What a diabolical twisting of the word of God. Some people are sometimes tempted to twist God’s word to their advantage.
Satan’s first line of attack is to create doubt concerning the word of God in man’s heart. Satan is the author of doubt whereas God is the author of faith. Therefore, doubt is of the devil. Faith is of God.
Are you almost losing your trust in God over a particular issue? Are you troubled with doubt about God, the Bible and your salvation? You can only find the solution for those doubts in God’s word. God is true (John 3:33); the devil is a liar (John 8:44). Peace of mind and heart depends upon the answer to one question “who do you believe, the Devil’s lie, or God’s word? Erase every doubt today by using the weapon of our Saviour Himself, “It is written”.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord Jesus, help me to trust You under all conditions.
2. I have decided to follow You, Lord Jesus. Please help me to follow You to the end.
