Text:
Hebrews 4:2-3; 11-12

Memory Verse:
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

A sword is a weapon with a long metal blade. It has a hilt with a hand guard. It is used for thrusting or striking an enemy when engaged in a battle. When sharpened, the sword could pierce through anything, making it a very dangerous and deadly tool. In Ephesians 6:13, the sword is the sixth piece of armour among the weapons needed by the Christian as he or she continues to fight the battles of life which no one can avoid.
Apostle Paul calls it the sword of the Spirit which represents the word of God. To a Roman soldier, a sword is an offensive weapon and, so, he does not wait for the enemy to attack. An armed soldier goes into the lair of the enemy and launches an attack such that the enemy is usually caught by surprise. A double edged sword is sharp at both ends. The impact of a double-edged sword is that
it pierces and cuts at the same time. This sword symbolises power, protection, authority, strength and courage. It represents discernment and the penetrating power of the intellect. God’s word
penetrates the depth of our being, transforms us from the inside with a supernatural quality that does not give room for distractions, until God’s will is fulfilled in our lives.
You must have daily contact with the Bible, the written word and constantly with Jesus, the Word. Confess the word of God because your confession is your possession. Live the word and always remind God of His promises.

Prayer Points:
1. May I learn to sharpen my sword by maintaining a daily contact with You, Lord.
2. Help me to sharpen my spirit with the sword.
