Text: Genesis 16: 1-6
Memory Verse: “So Sarai said to Abram, ‘See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.’ And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai” (Genesis 16:2).

10 years after settling in Canaan, Abram and Sarai were still waiting for God’s promised child. Frustrated by the delay, Sarai suggested an alternative – having a child through Hagar, her Egyptian maid. Though it was culturally acceptable, this decision contradicted God’s plan. The delay was not a denial; rather, it was a test of their patience and faith. Trying to accomplish God’s purpose through human logic and customs will always lead to complications and displeasure with God.

God often tests your faith, patience, and loyalty through life’s delays and challenges. Deferred hopes, unanswered prayers, and prolonged waiting are tools He uses to refine you. Daily, you encounter tests at work, at home, or in everyday situations. Through these, God seeks to know the depth of your trust in Him.

In 1 Samuel 13:8-14, Saul faced a test of patience when the prophet, Samuel, delayed his arrival. Instead of waiting, Saul took matters into his own hands and offered the sacrifice – failing the test and attracting serious consequences. Often, fear, tradition, or impatience lead us to fail life’s tests. Could your current situation be a test from God? Your response will determine whether you receive His approval or face correction. Take heart though! God’s word assures you that He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability. At the right time, He provides the grace to endure (1 Corinthians 10:13). Tests are not meant to destroy you, but to develop and ultimately reward you
(James 1:12).

Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, let me find grace in my hour of test and not fail You.
2. Holy Spirit, please help me to learn the lessons God has for me through my tests.
