The Tradition Of The Elders 2

Text:
2 Chronicles 21:1-7

Memory Verse:
“Their father gave them great gifts of silver and gold and precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he wasthe firstborn” (2 Chronicles 21:3).

The ways of the Lord are dynamic and past finding out. The pattern of the workings of the Spirit is like a wind that blows where it lists and no man knows where it goes. The rigid approach of anyone to put the Lord in a box and capture His operations in one way, will only boomerang in our faces and cause us to miss out on the move of God for a time and a season. Jehoshaphat, a man who walked after the Lord, seeking His counsel before taking critical steps (1 Kings 22:7), missed it in his succession plan because he went after tradition rather than the voice that had led him through the years.
He handed over the kingdom to Jehoram because he was his first born and not because the Lord commanded it and Jehoram murdered the others. That God moved in a certain way does not mean that it should become a cycle we are unwilling to review. Traditions often vary from the moves of God, and may put men against God. The best way to follow God is to know and do what
He wants now. Do not make a place God has left your dwelling place! Is the cycle of activities you keep on repeating what God is asking for at the moment or is it what He had asked in the past that you turned into a tradition?
It is important to note that we only maximise the potential of the Holy Spirit’s leading when we move as He moves.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord help me not to make a place You have left my dwelling place.
2. Lead me every day by Your eyes and Your heart.
