Text: Genesis 21:14-21

Memory Verse: “And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, ‘What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is’” (Genesis 21:17).

Hagar and her son, Ishmael, had been banished from the Abraham home for obvious reasons. Driven into the wilderness, it was not long before they ran out of water and it appeared they would die of thirst and hunger. Then something happened; as Hagar wept in fear of the imminent death, Ishmael cried and God heard! Teach your children to talk to God because God has a special love for and makes time for them regardless of their circumstances. In Luke 18:15-18, whereas the disciples felt that the children being brought to Jesus were an
unnecessary distraction, Jesus did not. Instead, He blessed them.

God was with Jacob as he fled from his brother, Esau. He reached out to him in a dream and caught his attention enough to get a commitment from him (Genesis 28:10-22). God raised the young Samuel to fulfil a very important role in Israel when he could no longer reach Eli, the priest. He called him into the ministry at a time when Samuel did not yet understand spiritual things (1 Samuel 3:1-11). Esther became the queen because the hand of the Lord was upon her. She had been taught to pray and, at the crucial time in the life of her people, she called for a fast and prayed such that God moved and granted her audience and favour with the king! Teach your children how to pray from a young age. It does not matter how they say it. God hears and understands.

Prayer Points:
1. I receive grace to teach my children how to pray.
2. Please grant my children willing and obedient hearts.
