Text: Matthew 19: 27-29
Memory Verse: “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life” (Matthew 19:29).
The hymn writer Frances R. Havergal (1836–1879) profoundly expressed the heart of God in her timeless song, “I gave My life for thee, My precious blood I shed, that thou might’st be ransomed and quickened from the dead. I gave My life for thee; what hast thou given for Me?” These powerful words remind us of the immeasurable sacrifice Christ made and challenge us to reflect on our personal response to His love.
Turning away from sin and accepting Jesus as Lord is only the beginning of the Christian journey. From that point onwards, the believer is called to walk in deeper fellowship with the Master, learning His ways, growing through the Word, and reflecting His character daily. This journey often requires sacrifice.
Every true follower of Christ must lay something down in their pursuit of Him. The disciples, including Peter, left their fishing business, not because it was wrong, but because they recognised the need to fully commit to the assignment at hand. Likewise, you are called to surrender anything that distracts you from following Jesus wholeheartedly.
What in your life is taking precedence over Christ or competing with your devotion to Him? Is it ambition, comfort, possessions, habits, or relationships? Remember, Jesus promised that whatever you give up for His sake, you will receive back a hundredfold both in this life and the life to come (Mark 10: 29 & 30). Christ gave His all for you. What will you give Him in return?
Prayer Points:
1. O God, open my eyes of understanding.
2. I surrender all to You, Lord.
