Text: Numbers 11:1-9
Memory Verse: “We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our
eyes!” (Numbers 11:5&6).
Akin’s family was struggling financially; his dad lost his job six months ago. They had to live on his mum’s income from petty trading from which barely anything was left after their rent was paid. He sighed, remembering the bowl of eba, sometimes without any protein, that his mother provided daily. He knew that he should be grateful, but was nauseated by the thought. The Israelites were sick of the manna God provided daily after they left Egypt.
The euphoria of being freed after many years of hard work and slavery had gradually given way to the realities of journeying through the wilderness. Though they had enough to eat, it had become monotonous. They missed the
cucumbers, melons, leeks, etc., they ate in the ‘good old days.’ When times are tough, one tends to look back at what had been instead of God’s faithfulness in providing for one’s present needs. Could Naomi, who migrated from Bethlehem with her husband and two sons, but returned without them, have had any reason to thank God on her return (Ruth 1:1-5, 19-22)? Or could Job have had reasons to thank God through his calamities (Job 1:21)?
Tough times are real and can be unnerving. You must, however, trust in God, not looking at what you lack, but what He provides. A cup that is half empty, can also be seen as half full, depending on your attitude and depth of appreciation. Tomorrow will be alright (Psalm 42:5, 11; 43:5).
Prayer Points:
1. Lord please, forgive me for being ungrateful.
2. Lord, I thank You for covering my nakedness all the time.
