Text: James 3:13-18
Memory Verse: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17).
I have seen, both in movies and real life, how wrong counsel can lead people into deep trouble. Imagine a married woman advising another not to tolerate her husband’s actions, but to always respond with fire. Does that show wisdom? Certainly not! Even more disturbing, a pastor once told my sister-in-law during a prayer session that she could only get married if she accepted a white garment prophet who already had a wife. Sadly, she followed that advice. The marriage was filled with strife, and the man passed away a few years later. She returned to her mother’s house, broken and wounded.
It is clear that not all advice or counsel comes from God. James 3:15 tells us that wisdom which produces confusion, strife, envy, or selfish ambition is not from above; it is earthly, sensual, and demonic. The wisdom from God is different. It is pure, meaning it has no deceptive undercurrents. It is peaceable, bringing harmony rather than division. It is gentle and willing to yield, not arrogant or combative.
True wisdom from above is full of mercy and good fruits, showing compassion and godliness in action. It does not show partiality or hypocrisy. Therefore, before acting on any advice, test its fruit. Does it promote peace, humility, and righteousness? If not, it is not from God.
Today, come before God and ask Him for wisdom from above – the kind that builds, heals, and leads to lasting peace and blessing.

1. Father, open my eyes to discern between godly and devilish wisdom.
2. Lord, make me a person of godly wisdom.
