Text: Proverbs 27:1-7
Memory Verse: “Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips” (Proverbs 27:1&2).
Human relationships must involve courtesy and simplicity. The Bible confirms that the Lord exalts a humble heart. When we sin and desire forgiveness, a broken heart and a contrite spirit means to e x p erie n ce “ g o d l y s o rr ow [t h a t] wo r k et h re p e n t a n ce” (2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV). This comes when our desire to be cleansed from sin is
so consuming that our hearts ache with sorrow and we yearn to feel at peace with our Father in Heaven. David was an example of a man who had a contrite and humble heart because each time he sinned, he acknowledged it and
repented.
Humility entails lowliness in heart, not counting yourself higher than what you are. Jesus Christ demonstrated this with His disciples by living a simple lifestyle. Throughout His ministry on earth with his team, He did not identify
Himself as greater than them. He washed their feet like a servant leader. “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart” (Psalm 51:17a).
A humble heart receives blessings and is open to many opportunities. The Lord exalts the humble and casts down the proud. Remember that it was pride that made the ‘Morning Star’ – the Devil – lose his position in heaven.
Have you done a self-evaluation of your lifestyle? What can people say about you in your neighbourhood, office or church? Your life should be a standard to be emulated by people around you. If it is not, you need to call yourself to order.
