A Journey Without A Specified Destination

Text:
Genesis 12:1-9

Memory Verse:
“Now the LORD had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you’” (Genesis 12:1).

Have you ever embarked on a journey which did not have a specified destination? If yes, how did you explain your intended journey to your loved ones? Abraham embarked on a journey whose
destination was not made known to him by God. Listen to what God said to Abraham – “Get out of your country from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” Clearly, the destination at this stage was not specified.
The big question we should ask ourselves is: “how did Abraham succeed in convincing his wife that they were going on a journey whose destination was not made known to him by God who gave the instruction?” How would you react to a similar instruction from God today?
Abraham’s obedience to God’s instruction was primarily determined by the type of relationship he had with God. He did not query God because he knew God would not lead him into anything that would cause his destruction. He was able to convince the members of his household – his wife and others. They and their animals left Haran to an unknown destination.
Has God spoken to you to do certain things – maybe to give out certain material very precious to you or give a certain amount of money to a fellow Christian to assist him and you are pretending that the message was not meant for you? Your obedience to God’s instruction will be determined by the type of relationship you have with Him.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, deepen my faith to obey You more and more.
2. At my next opportunity of receiving instruction from You to do something, help me, Lord, not to pretend as if I didn’t hear.
