Text: Ezekiel 22: 23-30
Memory Verse: “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30).
Intercession is the act of standing in the gap between two parties in conflict, seeking peace or resolution. Spiritually, it means earnestly praying to God on behalf of others. It is one of the most selfless expressions of love and compassion.
Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah, pleading with God to spare the cities from destruction. He passionately pleaded for God’s mercy. His appeal was based on God’s merciful and just nature. Abraham’s prayer reminds us that one person’s intercession can make a great difference, even in the face of great wickedness.
Our present world is filled with increasing evil, injustice, and rebellion against God. In such times, judgement may seem inevitable. However, we are reminded through the scripture that God takes no pleasure in the death of the
wicked but desires all to repent (2 Peter 3:9). That is why He responded to the intercessions of Abraham, Moses (Exodus 32:30–34), and Job. God is still seeking men and women to stand in the gap today.
Becoming an intercessor brings great rewards; God hears and answers your prayers. It draws you away from self-focus into compassion, and you become an instrument of divine mercy and restoration. Stand in the gap today for your family, your community, and your nation. Pray for the salvation of souls. Your prayers can change lives, and destinies. Will you accept the call to intercede for others today?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I want to be an intercessor; help me by Your Spirit.
2. Lord, give me a burden for the souls around me.
