Beware Of Pagan Practices

Text: Deuteronomy 12:29-32

Memory Verse: “Take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise’” (Deuteronomy 12:30).

The Church today is under tremendous pressure to copy the practices of the world without considering the spiritual basis of such practices. Many unconsciously copy demonic practices in the vain hope that anything that attracts people to the church is fair game. When you listen to the music in the church and see how people twirl their bodies, you may be tempted to believe that you are at a disco party. Furthermore, many are taught to believe that faith alone is inadequate. They must have spiritual baths, carry out weird rituals and keep relics of ‘faith’. Many are made to depend on false prophets and diviners.

Paul counsels, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you
through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in
Him, who is the head of all principality and power” (Colossians 2:6-10). No one can be compared to our God; therefore, He must be worshipped only in the way He has prescribed. Any other way is idolatry. God is looking for
peculiar people who recognize themselves as royal priests. You cannot apply satanic practices to worship God acceptably.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to differentiate between what is holy and what is not holy.
2. Lord, help me to serve You acceptably
