Text: Matthew 13:55-58

Memory Verse: “And Nathanael said to him, ‘Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see’” (John 1:46).

Walking back home from an evening midweek service, I sighted a beautiful lotus flower rooting itself deep in the slime and stagnant water on the marshy side of the road. I wondered how this beautiful bloom with impeccable white petals and yellow stigma, with no trace of its root, could blossom in this miry bog. We sometimes put people down based on their undistinguished family background, low educational level or their unknown birthplaces. When Jesus visited Nazareth, He was looked down upon due to His lowly birth and nativity (Matthew 13:54-55). It is, however, not just about your nativity, but who you are in Christ and where you are heading to. Esther, an orphan among the Jewish captives, won the beauty contest and became a Persian queen (Esther 2:7, 17). Ruth, a Moabitess, became one of the grandparents of King David from whom Jesus descended (Ruth 1:4, 4:17).

David, a shepherd boy, became the greatest king of Israel. Goodluck Jonathan, who had no shoes as a teenager, become the President of Nigeria. With God’s grace and favour, your lowly estate can be turned to an exalted position. You must not look down on anyone but see the best in them. You must also not allow your background or environment to limit you. Put yourself in the Master’s hands and allow Him to make the best out of you. Remember you are royalty and a fellow heir with Christ. Begin to see yourself how God sees you.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, give me grace not to look down on people.
2. I receive grace to bloom wherever I am located.
