Text: Psalm 111:1-10
Memory Verse: “Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation” (Psalms 111:1).
In many of the psalms, we are exhorted to praise the LORD. The phrase, “Praise the LORD” or “Praise ye the LORD” is a transliteration of the Hebrew words “Hallelu” and “Yah”. It means praise ye Yahweh or Jehovah. As believers, we are used to this phrase. We must, however, not miss the depth of the exhortation so that our worship of God will not be academic and listless.
According to Strong, the word halal from which hallelu is derived means to shine, hence, to make a show, to boast, to rave, and to celebrate. These are powerful words. It is an invitation for us, as believers in Yahweh, to make Him
known to the world (Psalm 22:22). We are invited to boast about Him (Psalm 34:2) and are encouraged to rave about His righteousness and works (Psalm 57:12).
Celebrate God in your heart and with all your being (Psalm 103:1). Praise Him sincerely, privately and in the congregation of men. Praise Him silently and with musical instruments. Praise Him no matter what you are going through. Rave about Him as if that is all you must do in life. Let your joy in the Lord be known and infect people around you with the melody of His praise. Do not be silent in appreciating His mighty works in your life and all around you. The awareness of the awesomeness of God is knowledge and wisdom. The wise praise God. It is more than duty, it is love.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I will not be silent. I will always praise You.
2. Accept my praises, O Lord.
