Text:
Luke 17:12-19
Memory Verse:
“So Jesus answered and said, ‘Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?’” (Luke 17:17).
God daily loads us with benefits (Psalm 68:19). Some of us have become so used to these benefits that they are no longer a big deal and do not constitute objects of appreciation and thanksgiving. Hence, we take God’s blessings for granted. Jesus, upon entering a certain village was met by ten lepers. Standing afar, because it was an abomination for them to come close to the people, they lifted up their voices and said “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” In response to their
request, Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they went, they were cleansed. Immediately, one of them, a Samaritan, upon seeing that he had been healed, returned to Jesus to show gratitude.
This Samaritan’s attitude of gratitude can be seen in the loud voice with which he glorified God, falling down on his face in humility at the feet of Jesus and giving thanks. How many times have you neglected showing gratitude and appreciation to God for His mercies, faithfulness and daily blessings? Where is the gratitude for the air you breathe, daily provision and protection etc? Where
are the nine? Why did you focus on only one or some aspects and neglect the others as if, “what about them? I can choose to do whatever I want.” This Samaritan was rewarded – he was made whole; spirit soul and body. No traces of leprosy anymore and if, probably, he had eaten up fingers or toes, they were replaced. There is always a reward for our gratitude.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, forgive me for my ingratitude.
2. Father, create in me a heart of gratitude that daily appreciates Your mercies, blessings and faithfulness.
