Text: Ruth 2: 2-6,8&9,14-16
Memory Verse: “Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, ‘Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.’ So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied and kept some back” (Ruth 2:14).
The story of Ruth and Boaz is a powerful illustration of kindness, generosity, and compassion. Boaz, upon learning who Ruth was, did not merely allow her to glean from his field, but instructed his workers to deliberately leave extra barley for her. His actions reflect a large heart; a
willingness to go above and beyond to help someone in need.
You encounter people who are in need; whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, daily. Do you extend a hand of help, or do you avoid them, hoping someone else will take responsibility? Boaz did not wait for Ruth to ask for more assistance; he took the initiative to provide for her without making her feel like a burden. His kindness was both intentional and thoughtful, fulfilling God’s command to care for the needy.
When you reach out to the poor, needy, or vulnerable, you are fulfilling God’s command to love your neighbour (Matthew 22:39). Not only does this bless the recipient, it also opens a channel of blessings for you. Proverbs 28:27 says, “He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses.”
Boaz’s act of generosity raises an important question: How large is your heart toward those in need? Let his example inspire you to do likewise. Reach out to those in need and fulfill God’s command to love and care for others. This way, you become a conduit for God’s blessings and His love in the world.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, make me a store house of provision for Your people and let me not hide my face from the poor and needy.
2. Lord, let the fruit of love and brotherly kindness increase among Your people.
