Cultivate the Relationship 1

Text: Jeremiah 29:10-14; John 1:35-40
Memory Verse: “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:12).

Cultivating anything is intentional and painstaking but rewarding. Cultivation is usually associated with labouring to prepare land in order to plant crops and improve the growth of plants. It surprisingly also includes developing or seeking to foster friendship, love, etc. or seeking the acquaintance of a person!

Whatever the circumstances, cultivating anything, especially friendships, is intentional. We meet new acquaintances in the course of our lives every day, but for that casual or formal meeting to develop into something meaningful and deeper, it must be cultivated. Andrew, a seeker of God and follower of John the Baptist, heard him speak about who Jesus was. His interest was kindled, and he decided to probe further by following Jesus and asking questions. He wanted something deeper and went after it (John 1:35-42).

Abraham was called a friend of God, and we saw that relationship cultivated as he sought to spend personal quality time conversing with and hearing from his friend (Genesis 17). Habakkuk also had questions and decided, “I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me…” (Habakkuk 2:1a). He was intentional.

Are you intentional about developing a relationship or deeper relationship with God? Have you set aside time to talk with Him, read and hear more about Him? Are you listening to Him and hearing from Him? It is a personal choice and experience. What changes do you need to make? You must be intentional about it.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I long to cultivate my relationship with You.
2. Please make me understand what I need to deepen our relationship
