Text: Proverbs 12:1-3
Memory Verse: “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid” (Proverbs 12.1).
I still remember being disciplined by my parents as a child, when I did something wrong. Discipline is rarely enjoyable because it is often accompanied by pain. However, it plays a crucial role in shaping our character and guiding us toward better choices. As we grow older, we understand the value of discipline and even discipline our own children out of love and concern for their well-being.
Aaron and Miriam were disciplined by God when they rebelled against Moses (Numbers 12:9-16). Same with David when he sinned with Bathsheba and murdered her husband, Uriah.
Discipline is an expression of love and responsibility. Just as we discipline our children to teach and help them grow, God’s discipline is evidence of His love and care for us as His children. Hebrews 12:6 reminds us that “the Lord disciplines the one He loves.” God’s correction is not a sign of rejection, but of His deep desire to guide us away from the destructive power of sin. It is a testament to His fatherhood and His commitment to refining us.
Even in the midst of discipline, God offers us comfort and strength to endure. Once the lessons are learned, He restores us, drawing us closer to Himself. Though discipline may feel unpleasant at the moment, it is important to look beyond the pain and recognise the love and purpose behind it. Our willingness to accept divine discipline signifies our relationship with God as true children, and not as bastards.
Prayer Points:
1. I thank You, Father, for adopting me as Your child.
2. Lord, I do not resent Your discipline, but ask for grace to go through it.
