Text: 2 Chronicles 18:1-3; 27-32
Memory Verse: “Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance; and by marriage he allied himself with Ahab” (2 Chronicles 18:1).
For some reason Jehoshaphat, a child of God, allied with Ahab, a wicked and godless king, in marriage. How unfortunate, especially when you consider that he could thereafter not draw the line when Ahab requested that he go to war with him against Ramoth Gilead. Worse still, after inquiring and listening to Prophet Micaiah’s warning, Jehoshaphat still foolishly acceded to Ahab’s wicked request that he dress in kingly robes to war while Ahab disguised himself! What did he do about Micaiah’s prophecy? How gullible and careless can a person get?
Job had respect for God and had lived right as best as he could. Then the tempter and ‘accuser of the brethren,’ Satan, came to cause him to sin. He wanted him to forget all that God had done in the past and curse Him. Satan
even got Job’s wife to taunt him to do so (Job 2:9). Thankfully, Job wisely maintained his trust in God and refused to be swayed, despite the horrendous attack he suffered.
What alliances have you formed that tie your hands leading you to take foolish decisions? You are unable to see clearly and will need to rely heavily on the Holy Spirit in choosing your associates. Jehoshaphat cried out to God for mercy and help when he realised his folly. God saved him from an untimely death. You too can cry out to God as often as you need to. God’s mercy can rescue you out of your foolishness.
Prayer Points:
1. May I be wise in my choices of associates, O Lord.
2. May everyone in bondage be wise enough to call on You for help, O Lord.
