Text: Isaiah 43:18&19
Memory Verse: “Behold, I will do a new thing,…” (Isaiah 43:19a).
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results does not make sense. New year resolutions about improving relationships, habits etc. are not kept because people are expecting different results though they are still doing things the same way. Isaiah reminded the Israelites that most of their problems were self-inflicted, but that God had been merciful, always remembering His promises to Abraham. Are you guilty of the same thing? Are you where you are because of your past disobedience, wrong choices, and unwillingness to listen to advice?
The prodigal son, in Luke 15:11-32,knew he needed to do something different to get out of the trouble he got himself into. He made a wise decision to go back home and he acted on it. Reminiscing about the past, the good old days, is not enough. You need to move forward by doing things differently. Do not dwell endlessly on the past
failures, challenges or even achievements. There is a time to move on (Phillipians 3:13). Leave the past behind and move forward representing Christ in all you do as a worthy ambassador.
Is there something you should be doing differently? God is set to do a new thing in your life. To achieve this new thing, you must step away from and stop doing the old things or stop doing things the old way. Looking back helps you to review your actions, utterances, thoughts or choices. What is it that God will have you do differently?
Prayer Points:
1. Open my eyes to see the changes I need to make, O Lord.
2. It is time to do a new thing in my life, O Lord.
