Salvation Depends On God

Text: Ephesians 2:1-10

Memory Verse: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9).

As Christians, our salvation does not come from our attendance at Achurch services, baptism, fasting or whatever spiritual exercise we get involved in. Our salvation comes directly as an intervention of God in the affairs of mankind.
Salvation can be defined as a national deliverance, deliverance from enemies or a restoration to health. King David experienced salvation in several areas. God saved him from the rebellion of Absalom, the attacks of Saul and from the hand of the Philistines. In all of the experiences, David could not defend himself. He said, “for You have delivered my soul from death. My eyes from tears and my feet from falling” (Psalm 116:8).

A Christian was travelling in a public vehicle. A co-traveller was holding a baby in her arms next to him. The baby reached out to the Christian Brother and held out his arms – the brother took the baby from his mother, entertaining the baby with some nursery rhymes from his phone. Not quite long, the vehicle got involved in a fatal accident in which all the commuters died leaving only the brother and the baby alive! What a salvation!

Did he have any role to play in this? No! Salvation is of the Lord. Man’s salvation was accomplished on the cross at Golgotha – Jesus did not use human means or methods to save mankind. Salvation depends on God who, in His
mercy, sought us and gave Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for our sins.

Prayer Points:
1. May I never be taken over by the spirit of pride.
2. Lord, grant me an unwavering commitment to Jesus, the author of my salvation
