Text: Proverbs 4:23–25
Memory Verse: “Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
Pornography which in years back, used to be revealed in explicit magazines or movies that people had to access intentionally, to avoid being labeled impure, has taken new forms today; subtly woven into mainstream movies, romance novels, audiobooks, music, and social media platforms.
What used to be called “blue film” is now disguised through romantic plots, steamy scenes, or “harmless” content. The devil is strategic, what starts as a simple kiss in a movie progresses to full-blown sex scenes. As a result, many consume filtered porn without realising it. But no matter how filtered water from the gutter or drainage is, it remains unclean and unfit for drinking. The same goes for sexual content wrapped in entertainment; it pollutes the heart, whether filtered or unfiltered.
Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts with all diligence. What we watch, listen to or read are seeds. Good or bad, enter through our eyes and ears and take root in our spirit. Many unknowingly open doors to demonic spiritual bondage through the books they read or shows they watch. A polluted mind becomes a fertile ground for temptation and sin.
So be intentional. Avoid certain movies, mute harmful pages, skip some books. Do not try to “handle it.” Scripture warns, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12). The devil often enters quietly. If others call you “too spiritual” for walking out of a scene, ignore them. Stand firm. Guard your heart; it determines your life’s direction.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me guard my heart and senses from impurity.
2. Lord, give me strength to turn away from anything that pollutes my spirit.
