Text: Proverbs 25:1-5
Memory Verse: “Take away the dross from silver, And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry” (Proverbs 25:4).
Every valuable piece of gold or silver undergoes a refining process, usually through fire, to remove impurities, also known as dross. Dross represents unwanted elements that make the raw metal dirty and less useful. Only when the dross is removed does the metal become a more
precious, workable material for the craftsman. The refining process enhances the metal, making it stronger and more durable.
In the same way, God refines His people. He told Israel that He had chosen and refined them in the furnace of affliction. Moses reminded the Israelites in Deuteronomy 4:20, “The Lord hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt to be unto him a people of inheritance as ye are this day.” The Psalmist also declared, “For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us as silver is refined” (Psalm 66:10).
God takes you through times of testing and trials to refine you, shaping you into the image of His Son. These tests are a process of spiritual growth, making you a mature believer and “a people of inheritance.” The refining process is meant to bring out the gold within you.
Proverbs 24:10 reminds you that to faint in the day of adversity is evidence that one’s strength is small. In your current trial, trust that God is refining you.
Allow Him to fulfill His purpose in your life, and you will emerge as refined gold, valued by all.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, give me grace to overcome my trials of faith.
2. Father, please purify me like gold that is valued and desirable.
