Text: 2 Kings 14:8, 15-20, 27
Memory Verse: “Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, ‘Let her alone’” (2 Kings 14:27).
Mrs Samuel, a widow, had been struggling alone to fend for her family, but things just were not going well. Then she heard that the Governor of her state was coming to her neighborhood to commission a project. She decided that she would reach out to him and ask for help. Like the woman with the issue of blood, she positioned herself well and got the attention she needed. Neither of them allowed the people around to dissuade them from their goal.
Things, people and circumstances will always try to discourage you and prevent you from reaching your goals. The Shunnamite woman, a notable woman, found herself being dissuaded from having direct access to Prophet Elisha by Gehazi, his chief protocol officer. She did not need any intermediary and so shunned all efforts to have Gehazi attend to her. She was focused and would not let small unimportant things like being pushed away prevent her from getting help for her son.
While Jesus encouraged the little children to be brought to Him, He spoke to the Canaanite woman whose daughter was distressed in a way that could have discouraged her, but she would not be bothered. She had a mission which was to get help for her daughter (Matthew 15:21-23). Blind Bartimaeus shouted Jesus’ name more when asked to stop.
Are you easily discouraged or offended? You must not allow unimportant things or comments to distract you from your goal.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I ask for more humility so I will not be easily offended or discouraged.
2. Remember me, O Lord, and hasten to help me!
