Text: 1 Samuel 1:9-16
Memory Verse: “Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk” (1 Samuel 1:13).
The heart is the seat of affections or sensibilities. It is where man’s desires reside and from where man’s actions and responses proceed. Humans may not see or know the desires in any man’s heart, but God sees, hears and knows, even the slightest of the whispers that proceed from there. Hannah was sorely provoked by her rival, Peninah; and emotionally distraught due to her childlessness. Her bitterness of soul was expressed through her anguished tears and wordless earnest whispers of her heart in prayer and vow to her God, who sees, hears and knows. The result was that God “remembered” her and visited her such that she conceived and bore Samuel, the acclaimed great prophet and priest of Israel (1 Samuel 1:19 & 20).
Fast track to Mark 5:25-34 to the case of the woman with the issue of blood, who secretly intercepted Jesus on His way to Jairus’ house, “For she said, ‘If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well’” (Mark 5:28). This
expression was not an outwardly spoken one, but an earnest whisper of her heart, actualised in her action that drew Jesus’ healing power and attention.
This brought a lasting solution to her problem and peace into her life. What is that issue in your life that is too weighty for you to bear or speak about? Unburden your heart to the Lord, who hears and attends to even the
earnest whispers of the heart. He will come through for you.
Prayer Points:
1. I praise You, O God, who sees, hears, knows and has the ability to attend tothe earnest whispers of man’s heart.
2. Lord, please remember me and attend to the earnest whispers of my heart regarding the issues of my life.
