Text: Luke 14:15-23
Memory Verse: “Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled’” (Luke 14:23).
A friend planned a birthday party on a particular Monday and spent so much on food and drinks, but most of the people he invited could not make it because they had to go to work and their places of business. The lady packed the food and gave it to anybody she saw on the street, to avoid wastage. This incident reminded me of the parable that Jesus told in today’s passage. The man had prepared a great dinner party and had invited many.
Unfortunately, the invited guests gave excuses and did not show up for the party. The man was unhappy because he wanted many people to eat his meal. The heart of God is that His house should be filled with people. He has done all
that is required. He sent His only begotten son to die (John 3:16), He reconciled man to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19) and He is preparing a mansion for them (John 14:2 & 3). He expects His mansion to be fully populated. So, He said we should go out there, compel men, constrain them to yield and come into the kingdom.
How are you compelling men to come into the kingdom of God? Are you giving excuses? All those that gave excuses did not partake of the party. Do not give excuses, so that you can dine with Him on the last day. Go out today and
compel men to come in, so that His house may be filled.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me not to make excuses when You need me.
2. I receive grace to compel men into the house of the Lord.
