Text: Luke 22:1-6
Memory Verse: “Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve” (Luke 22:3).
Satan played games with Judas’ mind and destroyed his life. This haunting incident reminds us of the grave danger of leaving spiritual doors open. There is no specific prophecy that Judas Iscariot had to be the one to betray Jesus. Anyone else, who allowed Satan a foothold in his heart, could
have fulfilled that role. Judas gave Satan room through unchecked greed, offence, and disappointment. Satan seized the opportunity.
When the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he made suggestions that seemed thoughtful, even caring (Luke 4:1–13). But beneath each suggestion was rebellion against God’s will. His typical tactic is subtle persuasion masked as wisdom; he tells you it is okay to “just compromise a little,” or “take what is yours,” without showing you the spiritual collapse that follows.
Judas did not fall in a day. Judas’ fall was the product of an unregenerated heart, and his thoughts about betraying Jesus were the manifestation of that deeper spiritual condition. His story could have ended differently, if only he had submitted to God and resisted the devil.
This is a sober warning to you, as a believer, to guard your heart with diligence (Proverbs 4:23). Do not entertain bitterness, greed, pride, or self-pity, which gives Satan access. Instead, anchor your heart in the Word of God and prayer. Be quick to repent, slow to anger, and vigilant in guarding your mind. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Do not be a vessel for Satan, but a vessel of
honour for God.
Prayer Points:
1. Holy Spirit, strengthen my resistance against the devil’s intrusion on my mind.
2. Help me to always have a word ready for every suggestion to sin by the devil.
