Text: Jeremiah 38:1-4,8-13; Colossians 1:13&14
Memory Verse: “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13&14).
Lade clung to her mother as if her life depended on it. She had just been rescued from the septic pit into which she fell and, though barely one year old, she had experienced fear. It had been a miracle that she survived the fall into the mucky waters. It had taken God’s goodness and the effort of two brave people to get her out alive.
The Prophet, Jeremiah, had a somewhat similar experience. He had been put in the pit as punishment for relaying God’s message to His people. God used Ebed-Melech, an Ethiopian, to plead his case before King Zedekiah and obtain pardon for him. He was rescued from the pit in a dramatic way, using rags tied together to form a rope, long enough to reach him.
God has always been a Rescuer of men. He rescued Joseph from the pit (Genesis 37:27&28), Moses from the river (Exodus 2:1) and the Israelites from Egypt. His most brilliant effort was dramatised in the birth of His only Son, Jesus, who He sent to be born by a virgin, live like a man and die on the cross like a criminal to atone for the sins of men (John 3:16 &17).
The effect of this most dramatic of rescues has been far reaching. As many as believe in Jesus’ name and trust that He died for them are still being forgiven and welcome into God’s family! Have you believed and been rescued?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I believe You rescued me at a great price. Please receive me.
2. I pray for all people that their eyes of understanding be enlightened today
