Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-5
Memory Verse: “that the LORD called Samuel. And he answered, ‘Here I am!'” (1 Samuel 3:4).
Availability is essential to the successful execution of any assignment. The simple response, “Here I am,” is far more than a phrase. It reflects interest, presence, readiness, and total surrender to the one calling. At just around the age of six, Samuel responded to God’s call, even though he was
untaught and inexperienced. This reminds us that God’s desire for a relationship extends to all, regardless of age or background.
There are vital lessons to glean from Samuel’s experience:
1. God values your availability more than your abilities. He is the one who equips the people He calls not the other way round.
2. The call of God is irrevocable (Romans 11:29). Once He calls, He does not change His mind.
3. Readiness to answer God’s call positions you for fruitfulness and fulfillment in life.
4. Partial surrender leads to diminished effectiveness. A half-hearted response limits what God can do through you.
God’s call comes in two forms – general and specific. The general call is extended to everyone: it is the call to salvation and to share the gospel. The specific call, on the other hand, is for particular assignments, tasks, or offices within His kingdom.
To fully embrace the specific call of God upon your life, you must first respond
to the general call. Have you given your life to Christ? Build a personal
relationship with Him today, and make yourself fully available, so that when
He calls, you too can say, “Here I am.”
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, fine tune my spiritual ears to hear Your call and heed it.
2. Grant me more grace to fulfill my specific call.
