Text: Job 1:13-22
Memory Verse: “And he said ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD’” (Job 1:21).
In Job 1:6-11, a conversation occurred between God and Satan with God Iboasting to Satan that Job was the foremost, blameless and upright man on earth. Satan tried to discredit Job before God. Job was completely unaware of what was happening. This debate led to Job’s hardships, as he lost his children, wealth, and health within a short time. Even his wife turned against him, and his friends offered no comfort.
Before these events, God, Job, and Satan had their individual mindsets. Satan believed that Job’s faith was based on God’s blessings, suggesting, “But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!” (Job 1:11). God’s perspective was, of course, different. For Him, Job deserved consideration as a servant like no other on earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feared God, and abstained from evil. Job’s view of God was evident in his declaration, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him…” (Job 13:15).
At the end of this trial, neither God’s perspective of Job nor Job’s trust in God had changed. Satan was, however, proved wrong. Can God say the same thing about you as He did about Job? Job’s resolute and triumphant faith in God shows that whatever you face in life, you should hold firmly to your faith in God. Do not let challenges change your view of Him.
Remember, God does not change.
