Text: 1 Samuel 1: 9-11,20
Memory Verse: “So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, ‘Because I have asked for him from the Lord’” (1 Samuel 1:20).
Waiting on God for the fulfilment of His word and promises is something we must learn, to avoid being unnecessarily hasty. There is usually a process of time involved. Hannah had prayed for a child for years and had needed to wait for God’s appointed time. Even when she had received an assurance of answered prayers,
she still needed to wait for the process of time! It was in the process of time that the Israelites became overburdened with the bondage of serving the Egyptians and resorted to crying out to God. God’s solution of raising a deliverer for them took a process. Getting them out of Egypt with Pharaoh’s stubbornness equally took a process (Exodus 2-13).
When God told Moses to stretch his rod over the Red Sea, it took the process of the East wind blowing all night to create the dry land (Exodus 14:21). Life follows a process and you must wait for God’s time and prompting, no
matter what is going on around you. Sarah’s inability to wait caused her to think of a way out of her barrenness. This birthed a son, Ishmael, who was not approved by God and who, eventually, caused her pain and is still causing the
world pain today. King Saul had specific instructions from Samuel to wait for seven days but he fell short because he was afraid (1 Samuel 10:8; 13:8). It was a very costly mistake. You must learn to be patient.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, forgive me for the times I have been hasty.
2. Teach me patience, O God, that I might not run ahead of You.
