Text: 2 Kings 4:14-23
Memory Verse: “And she said, ‘It is well’” (2 Kings 4:23b).
Crisis, a difficult or unstable situation, has a way of stopping you in your tracks and making you focus on it, almost oblivious of everything else going on around you.
How can anyone then say, “It is well” in the midst of a crisis? Parents are not meant to outlive their children, but that was the Shunammite woman’s experience.
How can you cope when unexpected things happen and you find yourself in difficult situations? Tell God about it (Psalm 62:8). Immediately her son died, the Shunammite woman knew she had to see Elisha and get God’s intervention through him. Do not isolate yourself (Galatians 6:2). There is wisdom in godly counsel and encouragement in Christian fellowship. Like the Shunammite woman, prayerfully share your problems with others.
Jesus is our refuge and only He can comfort (Psalm 46:1&2). Horatio Spafford was said to have written the hymn,”It is well with my soul” as he sailed over the ocean where the ship carrying his four daughters sank. He was learning to be at peace with whatever the Lord brought his way.
Nothing should be able to separate you from the love of God. James 1:2-4 says “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” No matter what comes your way, remember that God is in it with you.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to remember that You are with me always, even in crisis.
2. By Your grace, nothing will separate me from You, Lord.
