Text: 1 Kings 19:19-21

Memory Verse: “And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, ‘Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you’” (1 Kings 19:20b).

Elisha was born into a wealthy family and a part of the family business. He was heading a team of 12 oxen handlers on a big farm when Elijah, the famous prophet, approached him. He spontaneously ran after Elijah to register his intentions and accept the call to serve. He did not first go back to take permission from his parents to serve God but, in demonstrating his high regard for them, must have later, respectfully, told them of his decision to heed God’s call. Doesyour dilly dally on important leadings from God?

Moses was also called by God to serve, and, though he initially tried to wriggle out of it by giving excuses, he eventually accepted it as a divine mandate (Genesis 3:10-4: 18). He was afraid of going back to Egypt, but God’s
reassuring words helped him sort issues out in his mind. By the time he was talking to Jethro about his call, his mind was made up. Serving God might be difficult at times, but, if your heart is determined, you will remain at your post
and lean on God’s enablement.

You may be comfortable where you are serving God presently, but must be willing to go elsewhere, if God says so. God wants your total commitment in His assigned area of service to you. If there are things keeping you from doing
so, you must prayerfully and wholeheartedly put them aside. Remember that God will stand with you, if He has called you to serve.

Prayer Points:
1. Here I am, Lord, send me.
2. I will not be disobedient to Your call, O Lord.
