Text:
Acts 1:9-12
Memory Verse:
“This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way you have seen him go up into heaven” (Acts 1:11b).
Sometimes we could feel sad when what we had hoped for is not coming our way. Doubt and discouragement can begin to set in and it could lead us into turning away from what we are expecting or from trusting in the individual who had built that hope in us. Jesus’ disciples could have felt this way as they watched Jesus taken away from them into heaven. It happened
instantly. While He was blessing them, He was taken up into heaven (Luke 24:51). So, they continued gazing intently into the sky. Indeed, several thoughts may have filled their minds, especially with Jesus’ response to their question about returning the kingdom to Israel. What was going to become of them? For how long? The statement of the two men in white (Acts 1:11) must have brought them back to consciousness. It was after this comment that they returned to
Jerusalem in obedience to Jesus’ command.
You may be wondering about the truthfulness or reality of God’s promises to you. How long is it going to take? Should I wait for it or just forget about it? Or perhaps, you may be wondering about the promise of the return of Jesus Christ. Would it ever happen or am I believing in vain?
Whatever your doubts may be, remember that God is not slack about His promises. He is ever faithful even when you cannot see Him or feel He is working. Be assured; He is working to fulfil His promise in your life.
Prayer Points:
1. Help me to keep holding on to Your promises, O God.
2. Lord, I will not give up.
