Joseph, A Blessed Man

Text: Genesis 49:22-26
Memory Verse: “Joseph is a fruitful bough, A fruitful bough by a well; Hi branches run over the wall. The archers have bitterly grieved him, shot at him and hated him. But his bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong. By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (Genesis 49:22-24).

Joseph was Jacob’s beloved son, yet no tribe bears his name. Instead, Joseph received a double portion, with his two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, each becoming a tribe in Israel (Genesis 48). Though the eleventh, of the twelve sons, Joseph was a prince among his brothers. Jacob, in his prophecy, likened him to a fruitful vine, blessed by God even in the land of his affliction. Joseph endured hardship, betrayal, and
imprisonment, yet his faithfulness led him to greatness in Egypt. His story is a testament to God’s ability to turn suffering into success.

Years later, Moses reaffirmed Joseph’s divine favour by declaring bountiful blessings upon his descendants (Deuteronomy 33:13-16). His lineage held great influence, proving that God’s hand of favour rested upon him. Like Joseph, David also endured discrimination, hardship, and unwarranted persecution. Yet he remained true to God and, though he faltered, he found his way back to
God.

Joseph’s life should remind you that all spiritual and material blessings come from God. As James 1:17 declares, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” You must learn from his steadfast faith, enduring affliction with trust in God, and ultimately reaping the reward of His eternal blessings. Like Joseph, you can be fruitful, resilient, and faithful in all seasons of life. Cultivate and nurture your relationship with God and you will reap its blessings.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, grant me the grace to live above sin and to forgive all.
2. Lord, turn my situation around and use me for Your glory.
