Overcoming Life’s Challenges And Discouragements

Text: Genesis 37:2-11
Memory Verse: “Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more” (Genesis 37:5).

Life is undoubtedly full of challenges and moments of discouragement, which oftentimes are contributed to by close people. The trials and tribulations you are facing now are not unique to you; many have walked this path before, and many more will walk it after you. Be reminded that whatever happens in your life is for a purpose, and is often to help you grow in faith and perseverance (James 1:2- 4).

Discouragement is a tool often used by Satan to hinder believers from living in the freedom and authority Christ has given them. Abraham had a reason to be discouraged. Without a child, Eliezer was going to be his heir (Genesis 15:2-4). After serving God wholeheartedly, Hezekiah heard that he would not recover from his sickness (2 kings 20:1-11).

Are you feeling discouraged? Perhaps your business is failing, your expectations have not been met, or you are facing pressures from family and friends. Remember that these trials are temporary, and God is working behind
the scenes to bring about your victory. You can overcome discouragement by seeking grace from and encouraging yourself in the Lord, studying and applying the word of God to your situation and regular prayer and fasting.
Hold to God’s word because delay is not denial. After 13 years of affliction, Joseph overcame. In Cain’s story, however, discouragement was self-inflicted, a result of envy. So, examine yourself. Hold on to your faith, for God will turn your situation around.

Prayer Points:
1. Every arrow of discouragement fired into my life is nullified.
2. Holy Spirit, please help me through the challenges of life.
