Text: 2 Timothy 1:1-5
Memory Verse: “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5).
Paul, the apostle, writes to his spiritual son Timothy, who, according to history, became an elder in the church as early as the age of seventeen. Such spiritual maturity at a young age did not happen overnight. It was the result of a strong foundation laid by his grandmother, Lois; and mother, Eunice. These women did not merely practice faith; they lived it, taught it, and passed it down with sincerity.
As a parent or guardian, what legacy of faith are you passing on to your children or wards? Are they being taught to trust God wholeheartedly and to walk in His ways? Are you raising them to stand firm in a world filled with distractions and confusion? Remember, you cannot give what you do not have. Lois had genuine faith, and she transferred it to Eunice, who then passed it on to Timothy. This generational transmission of godliness mirrors God’s
commendation of Abraham in Genesis 18:19, where He testifies that He knew that Abraham would command his children and household after him to keep the way of the Lord.
Can God say the same about you? Is your faith solid enough to be modeled and reproduced in your children? (1 Timothy 1:6). Or are you mixing worldly ideologies with the truth of the gospel? In these perilous times, we must make intentional efforts to raise our children in righteousness, anchoring them in the truth of Christ. Do not just raise children, raise disciples who will carry on your faith legacy.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, I receive Your grace to teach and pass my unfeigned faith to my children.
2. Lord, let my children embrace and accept my faith in You.
