Pleasant Surprises and Laughter Await You

Text: Genesis 18:6-14

Memory Verse: “Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, ‘After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?’”
(Genesis 18:12).

The Lord God Almighty paid a surprise visit to Abraham’s household. During this divine encounter, Sarah was divinely selected for a miracle that reversed her long-standing shame of barrenness into a powerful testimony of fruitfulness. “They said to him, ‘Where is Sarah your wife?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’ Then one of them said, ‘I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son’” (Genesis 18:9&10).

This promise was so extraordinary and unexpected that it seemed almost laughable. Sarah was 90 years old, well beyond childbearing age by any human standard. “Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing” (Genesis 18:11). Yet God, in His sovereignty, overturned her doubts, physical limitations, and natural impossibilities by His Almighty power. Confronting Sarah’s disbelief, the Lord asked Abraham why she laughed and declared, “is any thing too hard for the Lord”. He then assured him that He would return to him at the appointed time next year, and Sarah would have a son.

Sarah ultimately became a living testimony of God’s limitless power and unshakable faithfulness. “Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as He had said… Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him” (Genesis 21:12). No matter your situation, remember that it is not over until God says so. He can still turn ridicule into rejoicing, and impossibility into testimony.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, visit me and my family divinely this year.
2. O Lord, overturn my miseries and ridicule into a mesmerising miracle.
