Prayers At The Junction of Regret

Text: Judges 16:21 -30
Memory Verse: “Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, ‘O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!” (Judges 16:28).

It appears that the only recorded instance in Scripture where Samson prayed is in Judges 16:28. Samson’s early years were filled with Isupernatural strength and divine enablement. He acted as he pleased, defeating enemies with ease and fulfilling the purpose of his calling without apparent effort. He was Israel’s pride, an anointed deliverer who embodied power and victory. Yet, all that came crashing down when Delilah entered his life.

Delilah did not just betray Samson; she became the symbol of his downfall. His strength was drained, his eyes gouged out, his feet chained in his enemy’s prison. At rock bottom, Samson finally prayed, but it was a prayer born out of regret rather than relationship.

Why did Samson not pray Delilah out of his life or seek God’s help to overcome his lust and weakness for women (Judges 16:16,17)? Why did he not ask for grace to obey the rules of his consecration or wisdom to live rightly? Though he knew there was a God who answers prayer, he refused to pray when it mattered most. Power, fame, and pleasure had reduced him to a spiritual
dwarf in the body of a giant.

Samson’s story is a sobering warning. He prayed the right prayer, but at the wrong time; the damage was irreversible. Do not wait until everything is lost before turning to God. Learn from Samson; pray now, when it still counts. Do not let regret be the trigger for your prayer life.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I will not hit the rock bottom on the laps of ‘whosoever’.
2. Lord, may I not have any reason to pray Samson’s kind of prayer in the jail of the adversary
