Pride Prevailed Over Prudence

Text: Psalm 44:1-3

Memory Verse: “For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favoured them” (Psalm 44:3).

Proverbs 16:18 (NLT) says, “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” I read about the frog that was running out of water and asked two birds to transport him to a nearby pond. He convinced each to carry one end of a stick in their beak while he bit down on the centre and held on. It was a sight to behold: two birds, one stick, and a frog in the middle.

They were progressing until a cow in a pasture looked up, saw the trio passing overhead, and asked, “Who thought of that?” At that point the frog could not refuse to give in to pride. Pride prevailed over prudence, and as he crashed
down to earth, he yelled, “It was meeee…!” Beloved, do not make the same error. You are good at what you do – for God’s sake. It is about Him, not you! Read and ponder these words in your heart: “Wealth and honour come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand… at your discretion people are made great and given strength” (1 Chronicles 29:12NLT).

Recalling the victories, blessings, and successes Israel had experienced, David reminds us that their victory did not come through their swords or strength, but through the help of God who loved them (Psalm 44:3 NLT). Note that the
blessings you enjoy every day are yours only because God favoured and smiled on you. That’s the truth! Give God all the glory.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, deliver me from pride and haughtiness.
2. Holy Spirit, please help me to always give God all the glory.
