Reward For Faith And Obedience

Text: Numbers 14:6-10,36-38

Memory Verse: “But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive, of the men who went to spy out the land” (Numbers 14:38).

While the majority of those who went to spy out Canaan murmured, complained and rebelled against Moses, Aaron, and God, Caleb proclaimed that they should go up at once and possess the land, “for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). Miffed by the people’s fear and lack of faith, Caleb and Joshua, who saw the giants as bread for the Israelites, tore their clothes and assured them that the land was exceedingly good and God would give it to them. They cautioned the people not to fear or rebel against the LORD, who was certainly with them
(Numbers 14:7&8).

God saw and acknowledged the unbelief and lack of trust of the overwhelming majority of the spies, and the negative effect of their confession on the people. He also saw and acknowledged Caleb’s and Joshua’s extraordinary faith and efforts to encourage the people to trust Him. While He punished the faithless congregation with death and 40 years wandering in the wilderness for a journey that ordinarily would have taken 40 days (Numbers 14:20-23), He rewarded Caleb and Joshua with life and gave them the privilege to enter the Promised Land. Surely, God directs and rewards those who trust in and acknowledge Him, even in the face of threatening or challenging situations, rather than be ruled by fear and unbelief by leaning on their understanding (Proverbs 3:5&6).
Will you trust God to fulfil His promises to you today? As you do, you will enjoy life and victory.

Prayer Points:
1. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness in fulfilling Your promises.
2. As I trust You to fulfil Your promises in my life, may I receive life and victory always.
