Text: Jeremiah 38:4-13
Memory Verse: “Ebed-Melech went out of the king’s house and spoke to the king, saying: ‘My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon…’” (Jeremiah 38:8&9)
During one of the darkest moments in Jeremiah’s life, God showed His power by sending help from an unexpected source. Ebed-Melech, an African official in King Zedekiah’s court, risked his career and, possibly, his life to rescue Jeremiah from a muddy cistern. This unsung Ethiopian hero, like many quiet figures in Bible history, displayed remarkable courage and character. He used his position, not for personal gain, but to serve God.
The workplace often presents unique opportunities to serve God and others. Like Ebed-Melech, we can trust God and act courageously, even when faced with fear or doubt. God never forgets those who stand for Him, and one bold act can reverse a tide of evil. Just as Ebed-Melech risked his life to save Jeremiah, Esther risked her life to save the Jews (Esther 4:16). God honoured their bravery.
Wherever you are in life, seek God’s guidance to help you recognise the unique needs around you that you are called to address. Like Esther and Ebed-Melech, you may experience fear and uncertainty along the way. However, it is far better to act courageously in the face of fear than to live with the regret of missed opportunities to serve God and His people. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to act, despite it. When you step out in faith, God will not only guide you but also honour your commitment. Your faithfulness to serve, even in the smallest ways, will open doors for greater blessings.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to use my position to serve You and Your people.
2. Lord, let me be bold as a lion and use me to stem the tides of evil
